It’s the first day of fall!

Back to school. Leaves changing colors. Football season and almost hockey season. The time for apple and pumpkin flavored everything. It’s a little hot for fall in Chicago today… I want to curl up with a warm blanket and hot apple cider by a fire, except it’s 93 degrees out.

Fall is my favorite season for produce. I have been patiently waiting for the best time of the year to make ratatouille. I made a batch last year for a private dinner and threw a sunny side egg on top, and it did not disappoint.

I also saw a new trick to clean a pumpkin in seconds using a hand mixer… Maybe I should try that one outside first, and wear a poncho just in case.

Anyways, fall is the prime time of year to hit up the farmers markets. Apples, squash, tomatoes, peppers, etc. While seasonal vegetables in store are flavorful, you can’t beat the flavors from local produce. Shopping at farmers markets takes the question out of what’s in season. But for your trips to the grocery store, we have a guide to fall produce for you.
